It's very passive-aggressive to say the least.
On the one hand, the management acts a nothing more than pass-through to allow for the whims of a billionaire to throw their power tantrum and squeeze more obedience and subservience out of the employee majority.
On the other hand, they know many employees are applying for and interviewing for openings all over the place (despite all the reported layoffs and firings), so they thing bumping up salaries is the way to retain people.
That may work for some (and certainly more money helps one manage one's responsibilities to one's family more), but in terms of accountability, there are many things a company can do to do right by people.
You know things like actually reward them for accomplishments by actually saying so amongst one's peers.
Actually giving people budgets and teams to train.
Showing actual respect for people by - you know - listening to their input, and responding constructively to the feedback.
Yeah - I know ... in a capitalist system?
