Culture Vulture chick hatched

Little guy was more like Donald Duck than a vulture.

Chlorpyrifos

Somehow I feel like this would've happened regardless of who 'won' last year's election.

Snippet below from the article above -

DB: So the EPA was set to pass a ban on this, right? Until the new folks came in?

LC: Yes, exactly. The EPA was set on a deadline to revoke the tolerances of this chemical on March 31, 2017, and just a couple of days before that date our new EPA administrator, Scott Pruitt, reversed that ban. So what we’re doing now is going to the State of California. As a big user of chlorpyrifos, we are demanding that the State of California impose a ban on this chemical. And, as I mentioned the science before, a lot of it is coming out of California. We have the UC Berkeley CHAMACOS study, which stands for the Center for Health of Mother and Children of the Salinas Valley, right where Safe Ag Safe Schools is located. That study has been going on for almost 20 years, showing the connections between prenatal organophosphate chlorpyrifos exposure and lowering IQ, and respiratory issues as well.

Tax the Rich - works for me.

Key words of wisdom -

We didn’t win this because Seattle’s Democratic establishment suddenly began to care about the crushing impact that decades of budget cuts and regressive taxes have had on working people and people of color in our city. It was the growing might of our social movements that led to this major victory. The establishment may have ultimately voted ‘yes,’ but not because they genuinely support taxing the rich. Mayor Murray and establishment Councilmembers like Tim Burgess and Lorena Gonzalez voted for it because we built a powerful movement over a number of years which made their continued opposition politically unviable.

Hydroponics is NOT Organic Farming.

Another example of how corporate establishment's interests co-opt government institutions for their profits.

Another good summary of why I don't trust and won't back the US Democratic Party.

"From single payer healthcare and student loan forgiveness, to increasing the minimum wage and affordable housing programs, movements have adopted demands for justice. The #Resistance borrows the language of these movements. They impersonate leftists challenging Trump, and then reveal their phoniness by lapsing into nationalist expressions as they respond to sensational allegations swirling around Trump and Russia.

No matter how much more authoritarian government has become under Trump, what has not changed is the inveterate charade of Democrats, and their liberal allies in the pundit class, who sabotage energized movements built around the unwavering conviction that communities deserve more, should demand more, and in fact, can achieve more."

What a fucking surprise - those people at Salon and ThinkProgress espousing establishment views on behalf of their corporate overlords.

Another interesting weekend.

Only this time it's not work related.

The baby is overdue by a few days - yay us.

We'll see what happens.

Larsen Ice Shelf

Holy fucking shit!

A giant iceberg, covering approximately 5,800 km2 (2,200 sq mi), breaks away (separation pictured) from the Larsen C Ice Shelf in Antarctica.

"On 12 July 2017, Project MIDAS announced that a large, 5,800-square-kilometre (2,200 sq mi) portion of Larsen C had broken from the mainland at some point between 10 and 12 July.[5][31] The iceberg weighs more than a trillion tonnes[32][33] and is more than 200 m (700 ft) thick.[34] The final breakthrough was detected in data from NASA’s Aqua MODIS satellite instrument, which images in the thermal infrared at a resolution of 1 km, and confirmed by NASA’s Suomi VIIRS instrument.[35][35] The iceberg is not expected to be an immediate danger to shipping, but it could pose a threat if it moves significantly northwards.[34]"

Sigh - a very painful and expensive day.

For me at least.

I was accosted today by one of the usual 'people' who enjoy their authority and are, well, psychopaths in IT.

Expensive car repair bill.

More work tonight.

Well, at least I can try play some music tonight.

Happy Canada Day - 2017.

Never thought I'd see the day where I wished I was back living in Canada, after over 18 years in the US.
