Once and fucking for all - US capitalism is complicit in terrible things like genocide.

Thank you Margaret Kimberley.

The court did not dismiss the case as Israel asked it to do. All of the parsing in the world cannot dispute the court’s determination.

The Court considers that, with regard to the situation described above, Israel must, in accordance with its obligations under the Genocide Convention, in relation to Palestinians in Gaza, take all measures within its power to prevent the commission of all acts within the scope of Article II of this Convention, in particular: (a) killing members of the group; (b) causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; (c) deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; and (d) imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group. The Court recalls that these acts fall within the scope of Article II of the Convention when they are committed with the intent to destroy in whole or in part a group as such (see paragraph 44 above). The Court further considers that Israel must ensure with immediate effect that its military forces do not commit any of the above-described acts.

Gotta put this on my reading list.

Despite what corporate media would like to have the American public believe, the 'airwaves' do belong to said public.

Not some propaganda conglomerates -

You just know this will bubble down from 'managers' down to 'individual contributors'.

https://www.techspot.com/news/101693-ibm-issues-ultimatum-managers-relocate-office-return-or.html

IBM has given an ultimatum to its remote managers: get back into the office or a client location for at least three days per week or find another job.

A different world?

Perhaps so -> https://consortiumnews.com/2024/01/29/a-radically-different-world-since-assanges-indictment/

But then again, I think for the 1%, it's just business (albeit deluded) as usual.

Because it's important to portray genocide with a 'Strong and egalitarian image' ...

NYT Engages in Front-Page IDF ‘Womenwashing’

https://fair.org/home/nyt-engages-in-front-page-idf-womenwashing/

A rather sobering article, with a telling end -

As the suffering in Gaza continues, it looks as if the Times is working harder and harder to find ways to distract from the world’s outrage of Israel turning what was once the world’s largest open-air prison into a lifeless moonscape. Highlighting the women who are contributing to that project is one way of doing that.

Why I don't follow or trust US Legacy Media.

If they publish that 2+2=4, count it on your own fingers to confirm.

Well as far as I'm concerned, the 'Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) ' has no credibilty whatsoever.

That one journalist - Julian Assange - is missing from their 'list', only indicates that they serve the American 1%.

https://scheerpost.com/2024/01/23/julian-assange-excluded-from-jailed-journalist-index-again/

But why does the 1% continue - that's the follow question to this video.

That is - why to the US-based 1% entities continuing down the path of the decline of the capitalist system that has propped up their profits and existence of dominance - when they know this is happening?

I think it's because they believe that they can then reorganize American society into a more fascist one, whereby the 'costs' of capitalism (i.e. maintaining elections and the illusion of democracy) are no longer there.

In this case - if that happens - that's game over for the planet.

Quote of the day - 01-24-2024.

Margaret Kimberley

In 2024 and beyond, the words “but Trump” should lose their power. How much has Biden done for Black people in the last three years? The covid era programs of small stimulus payments and the Child Tax Credit are over. Millions of people eligible for Medicaid and SNAP food benefits have been kicked off the rolls in many states with no intervention from the federal government. The pardon for federal marijuana convictions freed no one from jail. Police continue their killing spree with more than 1,300 victims in 2023. Mass incarceration continues as 1 million Black people are locked up, more than anywhere else in the world with the help of the most draconian sentences in the world. Of course Senator Joe Biden bragged about his role in the Clinton era Crime Bill which put so many Black people behind bars. There was good reason not to vote for him in 2020.

As it seems Black people have forgotten how to demonstrate political power, perhaps lessons from other groups are a means of regaining what has been lost. Black people can abandon Biden too, along with all of the democrats who owe their elected office to a group of people they routinely ignore or use for “dog whistle” politics appealing to white voters.

Donald Trump is not the biggest enemy, he is just the loudest and the least refined. Abandoning Biden and his minions can be a reality which may produce some worthy result. Feeling trapped by the duopoly has been and continues to be a losing proposition.

https://scheerpost.com/2024/01/24/us-supreme-court-defends-free-speech-on-palestine/

Free speech defenders welcomed the U.S. Supreme Court’s refusal to take up a lawsuit that outlandishly claimed a civil society group provided “material support” for terrorism by advocating for Palestinian human rights.

The Supreme Court’s punting of Jewish National Fund v. U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rightswhich comes over three months into Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip—marks the third consecutive time a federal court has dismissed the case, which USCPR said casts “collective activism and expression of solidarity as unlawful.”

In the case’s first dismissal in March 2021, a federal judge said that the plaintiffs’ argument was “to say the least, not persuasive.”

USCPR executive director Ahmad Abuznaid hailed Monday’s move by the nation’s highest court, reiterating the group stands for “justice for all and an end to funding genocide.”

“There’s no lawsuit in the world that can stop us from pushing our demands for human rights,” he added. “We will remain focused on opposing Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people and pursuing justice and freedom for the Palestinian people.”

Sigh - another month, another weekend of work

I remind myself in these times -

  • I do it to support my responsibilities to my family, and my financial situation, and our collective survival.
  • I made choices in the past that have led me here, and before holding anyone else accountable to that, I must first start with myself.
  • My goals and dreams haven't left me - they are still there - and it's up to me to make them happen regardless.
  • People are counting and depending on me - whether I really believe it or not. And this applies not only at work, but at home.
  • I should not - never expect - any kind of thank you, or reward.

I always knew US capitalism had many ugly sides.

Also always knew that the enforcers of private capital/property interests (namely the military abroad, and the police domestically) were part of that set of ugly sides.

But somehow I have wanted to think that hey - it's just a bunch of bad apples. Or it's just a corrupt group.

Nope.

215 bodies, known to the police, found in unmarked graves behind jail in Jackson, Mississippi

A horrifying situation is unfolding in Jackson, Mississippi, where 215 bodies were recently discovered in unmarked graves behind a state jail. The families of those buried, in what is known as the “pauper’s field” behind the Hinds County Penal Farm, were never informed of the death of their loved ones, let alone given the chance to retrieve their bodies and pay their respects.

The extent and scope of this travesty and utter disregard for human life is still largely being kept under wraps. However, what has been reported thus far is chilling. The gravesites of the victims are identifiable only by a number and a metal rod. The bodies were not embalmed, given coffins, or properly buried. The graves were dug by inmates and it is likely the burials were carried out by the same inmates.

One activist, known as Arthur “Silky Slim” Reed, who has been outspoken on the events, described a morbid scene at the burial ground when visiting, reporting that buzzards fly overhead, attracted to the disturbing stench that emanates from the improper burials and shallow graves.

The shocking revelation was unearthed only due to the persistence of Bettersten Wade, who spent seven months looking for her middle child, Dexter Wade, who suddenly went missing in March 2023. Bettersten would not find out the truth about her son until October 2023. Dexter had been killed shortly after leaving his mother’s home, hit by a Jackson police car while crossing a nearby interstate highway.

Ecosocialism?

Mr. Hedges makes the case for war crimes commited by Israel.

https://scheerpost.com/2024/01/12/chris-hedges-the-case-for-genocide/

The South African lawyers, who compared Israel’s crimes with those carried out by the apartheid regime in South Africa, showed the court a video of Israeli soldiers celebrating and calling for the death of Palestinians – they sang as they danced “There are no uninvolved civilians” – as evidence that genocidal intent descends from the top to the bottom of the Israeli war machine and political system. They provided the court with photos of mass graves where bodies were buried “often unidentified.” No one – including newborns – was spared, the South African lawyer Adila Hassim, Senior Counsel, explained to the court.

The South African lawyers told the court the “first genocidal act is mass killing of Palestinians in Gaza.” The second genocidal act, they stated, is the serious bodily or mental harm inflicted on Palestinians in Gaza in violation of Article 2B of the Genocide Convention. Tembeka Ngcukaitobi, another lawyer and legal scholar representing South Africa, argued that “Israel’s political leaders, military commanders and persons holding official positions have systematically and in explicit terms declared their genocidal intent.”

 Seems pretty clear to me.

Alaska Airlines cancels all flights on 737 Max 9 jets through Saturday

Alaska Airlines said Wednesday it is canceling all flights scheduled on Boeing 737 Max 9 planes through January 13 as the carrier continues to investigate a mid-air incident last week in which a part fell off one of its jets and forced an emergency landing in Portland, Oregon.
