America's biggest gas spill ... not covered in the establishment media - why?

You'd think this level of incompetence by a corporation would itself be news ... since it only shows that they cannot even really track what should be important, namely delivering gas from point  A to point B.

Thank you Jimmy Dore!

The fucking 'Kraken' are here.

Oh joy -> https://media.nhl.com/public/news/14871.

Don't kid yourselves, it wasn't cheap:

On the heels of firming up the impressive financials on two new network deals in the United States, the NHL and its band of owners welcomed another windfall this week, receiving the final payment of the $650 million expansion fee from the Seattle Kraken on Friday.

Hey look who's been implementing apartheid - Israel.

It's a warning - this is where America is headed.

https://consortiumnews.com/2021/04/28/human-rights-watch-israel-guilty-of-apartheid/

While 80% of the Mountain Aquifer’s water recharge area lies beneath the West Bank, Israel directly extracts about 90% of the water that is withdrawn from the aquifer annually, leaving Palestinians only the remaining 10% or so to exploit directly. In monopolizing this shared resource, Israeli authorities sharply restrict the ability of Palestinians to directly exploit their own natural resources and render them dependent on Israel for their water supply.

This to me looks like a war crime.

Got my 2nd COVID-19 vaccination a couple of days ago.

Oddly enough, I felt a bit more tired after the first shot, as opposed to the 2nd one.

But I seem to have recovered faster than I did - so far.

Establishment strikes again - this time in Equador.

“Promoting democracy” in service of the US empire

Ruling elites hold elections to legitimize their rule, not because they believe in democracy. By the time of the 2021 presidential election in Ecuador, the playing field had been rendered so precipitously unlevel that the US had little need to overtly intervene as it did in Bolivia in 2019.

But that did not mean that the US was not actively intervening. The websites of USAID, NED, NDI, and IRI make no secret of the imperial hubris of pretending to “promote democracy” in Ecuador. The US laid the groundwork, according to a high-level diplomat, to unify the right and rig the contest against the left.

The clearest example of how Corporation-Controlled Capitalism is at odds with Democracy: the CIA.

The new report stated, “The Intelligence Community assesses that domestic violent extremists who are motivated by a range of ideologies and galvanized by recent political and societal events in the U.S. pose an elevated threat to the Homeland in 2021.”

Journalist Glenn Greenwald wrote of the report, “It makes clear that its target encompasses a wide range of groups from the left (Antifa, animal rights and environmental activists, pro-choice extremists and anarchists: those who oppose capitalism and all forms of globalization) to those on the right (sovereign citizen movements, anti-abortion activists and those deemed motivated by racial or ethnic hatreds).”

 ...

...the CIA and their wannabes are surveilling and grouping alongside domestic terrorists anyone who points out capitalism causes a lot of problems. Such an analysis is just, well, fact. Capitalism is an economic system requiring infinite growth on a planet with finite resources — so at the end of the day, it can only result in epic collapse. That’s not an opinion. That’s just how it is.

Apparently the only other thing the US produces most besides weapons, is death.

https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2021/04/24/pand-a24.html

The total number of COVID-19 deaths in the US is already approaching 600,000, on track to surpass the 675,000 estimated to have been killed in the US during the 1918 pandemic.

By the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluations modeling projections, the COVID-19 death toll is expected to surpass 600,000 before June, reaching 620,000 by August under a best-case scenario.

Hey look, more right-wing establishment stupidity!

Seriously, I can't make this shit up.

https://news.yahoo.com/us-backs-japans-plan-release-040546801.html

The US has backed Japan's controversial decision to release over 1.2 million tonnes of contaminated water from the wrecked Fukushima nuclear plant into the Pacific Ocean.

Why is it I can see that this is a really stupid idea?

Want proof of how stupid and reckless right-wing establishments are?

Look at India: https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2021/04/21/inco-a21.html

In a national televised address last night, Prime Minister Modi delivered much the same message as his finance minister. Only far from wanting to “address” the concerns of the Indian people, he effectively told them to live with the threat of mass death and continue to fend for themselves in the face of an unprecedented socio-economic crisis.

Rewording the capitalist mantra that “the cure must not be worse than the disease,” Modi declared that India must be “saved” not from the pandemic, but from a lockdown aimed at halting the virus’s advance and saving lives! “In today’s situation, we have to save the country from lockdown,” Modi declared.

They are dummies because they simply don't care how many lives get lost. They care more about corporate profits over lives.

Chauvin found guilty.

I'm sure Daunte Wright's murder was a factor. Any less would be disaster for the right-wing, as the it being the ugly face of the establishment would be revealed.

Keep in mind he's not been convicted. For that we'll have to wait for sentencing.

KHive=Hillary Troll Farms.

https://thegrayzone.com/2021/04/16/kamalas-khive-trolls-harassment/ (h/t to Ron Placone!)

The LA Times cast blame on Bernie Sanders, during his 2020 campaign, for his supporters “abusive behavior”, To this day, however, the Times defends Kamala Harris from association with the verified “abusive behavior” of KHive. There is literally no mention of “abuse”, and scarcely any allusion to it in the paper’s Kamala stan coverage.

As national political campaigns fight for social media dominance, it is natural that the online bases they establish will attract some deranged individuals. But inside the KHive, the most violently unhinged voices tend to earn the most praise while mainstream media looks the other way.

Harris and her husband, Douglas Emhoff, have openly embraced and encouraged the KHive, praising its members as “pretty awesome.”

It's a race then. Which collapses first - the American Empire, or the planet from climate change?

Hmm ... maybe I DON'T want to travel to Canada anytime soon.

Or at the very least, not travel via it's most famous airline -

https://www.thestar.com/business/2021/04/13/air-canada-has-just-added-a-legal-loophole-that-may-give-it-the-right-to-refuse-refunds-for-flights-cancelled-due-to-the-pandemic-experts-say.html

The new language appears in the tariffs section on involuntary refunds, which was updated on April 13, according to Fitzpatrick. The updated section streamlines the description of circumstances that may lead to an involuntary refund, such as a delay of more than three hours or a schedule irregularity.

The changes seem to include the addition of the exception, which reads: “No Involuntary Refund is owed if the cancellation or delay outside of Air Canada’s control was caused by a force majeure event of widespread magnitude and intensity.”

When asked why the “force majeure” exception was added and what it refers to, if not COVID-19, Fitzpatrick said: “The force majeure reference is not new and is standard contract language, in this case reflecting former Transport Minister Marc Garneau’s direction on Dec. 21, 2020 that passenger protection regulations should ‘not impose an undue financial burden on air carriers that could lead to their insolvency.’”

But the “force majeure” reference does appear to be new. A previous version of the tariff document, dated March 22, 2021 and accessed via internet archive Wayback Machine, does not include the exception.

All those 'lesser of two evil' right-wingers who insisted on Biden being better than Trump - not one probably feels any sense of regret or remorse over this.

Biden budget calls for record military spending, nuclear weapons and hypersonic missiles

Amid mounting tensions with both Russia and China, the Biden administration has requested the largest military budget in US history, demanding $753 billion, or more than the next 10 biggest militaries combined, in annual military spending.

The budget calls for additional spending on nuclear weapons, the upgrading of the country’s nuclear-capable ballistic submarine fleet, and the development of a whole new range of long-range weapons that military planners say are necessary for the US to fight a major war with Russia or China.

The budget exposes the hollow promises of the “progressive” wing of the Democratic party, including Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who claimed that a Biden presidency would be a departure from the militarism and warmongering of former president Donald Trump.

Instead, just months into his presidency, the Biden administration has poured gasoline on global flashpoints, creating the greatest period of tensions between the United States and Russia since the 2014 annexation of Crimea, and with China since the 1970s.

Following an announcement by the US proxy regime in Ukraine last month of a plan to militarily retake Crimea from Russia, relations between Washington and Moscow have been on a hair trigger. On Friday, the United States announced plans to deploy warships to the Black Sea, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has warned about the eruption of a “full-scale” war.

At the same time, the Biden administration has moved to deploy offensive weapons on the islands surrounding China and is discussing a military alliance with Taiwan, creating a standoff in both the strait of Taiwan and the South China Sea.

Don't look now - next COVID-19 wave coming to a body near you!

Oh great -> https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2021/04/05/usco-a05.html

Osterholm continued, “I understand the absolute resistance in this country even to consider that and you know—it's kind of like trying to drink barbed wire—but the bottom-line message of the virus is it’s going to do what it’s going to do, and we are going to have to respond somehow.” He added that this might involve pulling “back on some of the restrictions that we’ve loosened up on.”

This resistance derives primarily from the drive by the US ruling elite, backed by both capitalist parties and the corporate media, to force children back to school and their parents back to work, in order to produce profits for the capitalist class.

Osterholm, who served as a member of President Biden’s COVID-19 transition advisory board, has been phased out since his blunt warning in January that the drop in coronavirus cases was “the eye of the hurricane” and not genuine progress. This warning is now being tragically confirmed.

The epidemiologist focused much of his discussion on the danger that B.1.1.7 was more dangerous to children than the initial form of the virus. “They are now, as kids, getting infected at the same rate that adults do,” he explained. “They’re very effective at transmitting the virus. Just in Minnesota in the last two weeks we’ve had 749 schools with cases.” he said.

'Rotten apples' are not exceptions - they are symptoms of a larger, broader problem.

Indeed.

Systemic and institutionalized racism exists in large organizations like law enforcement organizations because it's by design.

It enables the rich and the powerful as a means of controlling said organizations to enforce their wills and processes for themselves, over everyone and everything else.

A week off.

Time to learn about my recent acquisition -> http://vultcult.blogspot.com/2021/03/my-birthday-gift-arrived.html

A failure of establishment media to represent actual reality means keeping the publics they serve in both confusion and lies.

Case in point -> https://fair.org/home/with-nicaragua-scary-covid-projections-are-more-newsworthy-than-hopeful-results/

It's a reminder to me that those who work in establishment media aren't actually journalists.

This is what journalists do:

The trend could be confirmed by talking to people working in the health service, as I did on various occasions. In late June, an epidemiologist monitoring the situation nationally told me that hospitals were reporting that the peak had passed. In July, I checked with a local hospital that was dealing with virus cases: Its intensive care unit still had Covid patients, two on ventilators, but wasn’t full. In August, the same hospital recognized the efforts of all the staff—doctors and nurses, porters and cleaners—in a moving ceremony to mark the end of the crisis, attended by many of the patients who had recovered, and who expressed their thanks for the attention they had received.

This achievement in turning the pandemic into what was, effectively, a short, sharp shock, came despite Nicaragua having no lockdowns. Adjoining countries such as Honduras, El Salvador and Costa Rica had strict lockdowns, yet had many more cases. In Costa Rica, there was a prolonged peak from September until January, an experience directly opposite to Nicaragua’s. Honduras continues to have a high incidence of the virus, with hospitals at the point of collapse even in 2021.

Can you say systemic racism?

https://blackagendareport.com/derek-chauvin-and-myth-impartial-juror

Reed’s dismissal was not only a loss for the three Black defendants, but also a personal insult to Reed—the court effectively told her that she was not qualified to participate in the process of deciding justice because she supported BLM. She told the Marshall Project, “I felt targeted. It was a life-changing experience for me, personally. And I still talk about it to this day. I tell my kids about it. Not to scare them but to make them aware.” Her dismissal represented a check on her ability to participate in democratic life. Sure, she could vote, but the state did not trust her to help decide the fate of another person, supposedly solely because of her affiliation with BLM.

In an amicus brief  filed at the California Court of Appeals, lawyers from the MacArthur Justice Center, the ACLU, and other civil rights organizations argued that Reed’s dismissal was in violation of the Constitution. They contended that her support for BLM could be considered a proxy for race, given that many more Black people than jurors of other races supported the movement at that time. Consistent with the precedent set in Batson v. Kentucky (1986) and affirmed in Flowers v. Mississippi (2019), it is unconstitutional to dismiss jurors on the basis of race. While the authors of the amicus brief framed their argument in racial terms to form the basis for a successful appeal, this angle ignores a critical issue: beyond race, there is value in including BLM supporters on juries—more broadly, there is value in including jurors who are critical of the criminal legal system and aware of its too often unequal and racist applications.
