I have to remind myself...

As if there aren't enough reasons to NOT trust corporations ....
... there's one of the most obvious ones. -> namely control over technological innovation.
My issue with the article however, is that nothing they suggest really is that effective.
It's a function of capitalism ... as long as anyone is incentivized (by usually profit) to do well, almost anything ... that will always take precedence.
And any innovation in such hands, will always be used for their incentivizing. Anyone who's ever tested software and discovered problems or issues that ultimately will never get resolved, knows it's because very often, the risk is calculated based on profit gain or loss.

Oh look, Euro-settler/colonialists to continue their genocidal acts.
Is anyone paying attention? Oh yeah that's right, it's brown people so who fucking cares?
Despite not many surprises, I still think this is a book worth getting.

Two examples of why 'capitalism' is really crap for the public.
Example 1 - Rainier Beer.
Something that was good and part of the cultural identify of the Pacific Northwest, and now exists as a fake reproduction of itself today.
Example 2 - Microsoft Outlook.
Back when I worked there, the Exchange Server team used to refer to it as 'look out'. You can see why.
These are not examples of 'corporate greed'. They aren't 'bugs' or even 'features'. They are the basic functions of the system. This is how capitalism operates.

"WE THE PEOPLE" party?
I can 't help but agree with this comment -
"Any political movement that challenges the status quo will be subverted and co-opted, just like Occupy, Tea Party, MAGA etc. or denied access just like Ron Paul's rEVOLution. Good luck. You can't change this system by voting."
Power, Decadence, and Denial.
The common denominator -> White.
https://www.blackagendareport.com/white-power-white-decedance-white-denial-dialog-ajamu-baraka
A telling point from the conversation.
And so we have to remind people that this is a bipartisan position on the part of the politicians who have been completely paid off and compromised by the Zionist lobby and the interests and objectives of the ruling element. That ruling element is disproportionately Zionist also. But even more importantly, we have to remind people of the terms of struggle and resistance. What we are seeing today is not an aberration but historical continuity. The Criminal Attack on Iran by the U.S. and Israeli Fascist Regimes Once Again Revealed the Sadistic Brutality that Has Always Been At the Core of the Western European Imperialist Project. It is what made Europe, Europe, and it is the material basis of white power.
So you're right. This is what we see now with U.S. policies is a reflection of the agenda of the ruling class. The majority of the US population is opposed to the war, but that has no bearing on the policies because there is no democracy in fascism. The people are just ignored but if they actively resist they are suppressed. The only agenda that counts is the agenda of capital and at the center of that agenda is the commitment to war to solve Western capitalist decline - an impossibility.

Steal, conceal, and do the unreal - that's how psychopaths operate.
How much of this is actually possible, I'm a little skeptical about.
In the United States, there isn't a democracy. Sure, there are 'elections', but that's really about the rich and powerful picking their middle management for the next couple of years. 'Democrat' and 'Republican' don't have any real meaning to the public otherwise.
They do serve a performative purpose - to maintain the illusion that the US is a democracy.

Habs to face the Lightning in the 2026 Stanley Cup Finals, Round 1.
Quote of the day - 09-17-1964.
(!)
Yes - because honestly Malcolm X was truly ahead of his time. Even today, more than 60+years after this was published, these words are still neither heard, understood, or largely accepted by much of Western nations.
https://www.blackagendareport.com/essay-zionist-logic-malcolm-x-1964
The modern 20th century weapon of neo-imperialism is "dollarism." The Zionists have mastered the science of dollarism: the ability to come posing as a friend and benefactor, bearing gifts and all other forms of economic aid and offers of technical assistance. Thus, the power and influence of Zionist Israel in many of the newly "independent" African nations has fast-become even more unshakeable than that of the 18th-century European colonialists...and this new kind of Zionist colonialism differs only in form and method, but never in motive or objective.
At the close of the 19th century, when European imperialists wisely foresaw that the awakening masses of Africa would not submit to their old method of ruling through force and fear, these ever-scheming imperialists had to create a "new weapon," and to find a "new base" for that weapon.
Dollarism
The number one weapon of 20th-century imperialism is Zionist dollarism, and one of the main bases for this weapon is Zionist Israel. The ever-scheming European imperialists wisely placed Israel where she could geographically divide the Arab world, infiltrate and sow the seed of dissension among African leaders and also divide the Africans against the Asians.
Zionist Israel's occupation of Arab Palestine has forced the Arab world to waste billions of precious dollars on armaments, making it impossible for these newly independent Arab nations to concentrate on strengthening the economies of their countries and elevating the living standard of their people.
And the continued low standard of living in the Arab world has been skillfully used by the Zionist propagandists to make it appear to the Africans that the Arab leaders are not intellectually or technically qualified to lift the living standard of their people...thus, indirectly inducing Africans to turn away from the Arabs and towards the Israelis for teachers and technical assistance.
"They cripple the bird's wing, and then condemn it for not flying as fast as they."

What 'ceasefire'?
We've seen this already.
For the psychopaths in the US Empire, 'ceasefire' simply means their opponents stop fighting.
I certainly would like to see this happen.
I do think that given the level and degree of lies and propaganda propagated on the peoples of 'Western' nation-states, the collapse will be rather shocking and astonishing.
Whether a new system - that places the collective and public need over the private and profitable greed - takes it's place ... that remains to be seen.
2026-04-07
While a challenge to the Petrodollar, it's should be noted that Iran is fighting back for its own survival.
Up until recently, countries 'fighting' the US Empire are doing so on the US Empire's terms, and for their own existence to continue.
Time will tell what closing the Strait really brings. If there's one thing I've noted, is that the oligopoly that is behind the US Empire have been planning this for a long time. Will there recent mis-steps in Iraq, Afghanistan and funding Israel really affect them here?
We'll find out at some point.
Yes I know it's part of the Cuban Constitution, but I still worry.

When it comes to India, there's no real surprise. Mode and his bunch of Hindu psychopaths naturally line up with Israel -
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Jerusalem literally embracing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu two days before the attack began. The two men signed a Special Strategic Partnership. Naturally, instead of condemning Israel, India has criticized Iran for its retaliation and distanced itself from Tehran.
This has been perhaps best illustrated by the sinking of the Iranian frigate IRIS Dena off the coast of Sri Lanka on March 4, just five days after the U.S. and Israel launched their attack on Iran.
On that day the frigate was sunk by a torpedo from a United States submarine in the Indian Ocean.
The vessel had just participated in a multinational naval exercise hosted by India. It was en route back to Iranian waters when it was hit, on the high seas, killing almost 90 sailors, while several others were rescued by the Sri Lankan navy and coast guard.
India’s response, or rather, its silence, has been striking.
A major U.S. military strike occurred almost at India’s doorstep, targeting a ship that had just participated in a naval exercise hosted by India, in a region, the Indian Ocean, that India considers part of its extended maritime neighbourhood and where New Delhi has long aimed to establish itself as a “net security provider” and yet Modi’s government did not condemn the attack.
Despite Tehran’s direct requests for Indian support, three weeks into the attack on its BRICS partner, New Delhi still refuses to criticize the U.S. and Israel, sticking mainly to vapid calls for restraint and diplomacy. As the 2026 BRICS chair, New Delhi has made no apparent effort at crafting a common response, given its own pro-Israel stance.

Once more (and with feeling) - the planet is in peril as long as psychopathy of wealth and power dominate all systems of governments.
In case you're wondering, they all aren't some giant monolith that moves in lockstep with itself.
Rather, it's more like high-school cliques, or gangs, over government agencies.
Or corporations.
The only ways I see this insanity ending are -
- The psychopaths in the West are permanently removed from power, along with those systems replaced by one placing the needs of the majority over all else.
- The West collapses.
- Some combination of 1. and 2.
When it comes to the US Empire and its crapitalist ways - never underestimate its ability to divide and conquer.
In this case, different movements/efforts.
Hint: Race is a factor. Money is another.
But let’s say that these Big Green groups are able to rationalize the implications for water resources associated with mineral extraction - they still have to contend with profligate water use of data centers in order for them to function. According to California’s Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory, data centers, nationally, are using approximately 627 million gallons of water per day for consumptive use - water that isn’t returned to its source. To put this in perspective, the roughly 150.4 billion gallons of water expected to be consumed by data centers over a five year period in the Great Lakes region alone is equivalent to the annual water withdrawals of 4.6 million U.S. households, which is more than 2.5 times the number of households in Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland and Grand Rapids combined. As such, for Big Green groups to be so cavalier about an issue like water, a resource that is absolutely necessary to sustain the functions of the planet that, in turn, sustain all life as we know it, is reckless, irresponsible, and perniciously close to the same attitude held by many polluters who view natural resources as nothing more than instruments to increase profit. And the fact that the United Nations has declared that the world has entered an era of “global water bankruptcy” accentuates how derelict many of these environmental organizations are by willfully overlooking the salient issue of data centers and water usage.

To activists and “leftists” in the imperial core: your responsibility is not to lecture the oppressed. Your responsibility is to fight your own ruling class. Your responsibility is to expose, disrupt, and defeat imperialism at its source.
It is objectively reactionary to subject nations under attack to colonial “litmus tests.” To demand purity from those fighting for survival, to echo the language of the empire while pretending to oppose it.
You must stand with resistance, with the defense of national sovereignty and the right of people to defend themselves from Western White colonial/capitalist imperialism.

A term I don't use - one that's a telling sign of propaganda.
Another common tactic of delegitimization
media use is to describe the Iranian as a “regime” (e.g., Bloomberg, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, CNN, NBC News). The word
“regime” immediately discredits a government, and cues the reader to oppose it.
The phrase “Israeli regime” is virtually never used, unless in a quote from
Iranian officials.
Once again a reminder - Americans are the most propagandized people on the planet.
If you really want to understand why the US Empire is the most destructive force said planet ...
If you really want to understand why the human species is closer to violence and destruction than ever ...
If you really want to understand how bullying works ...

An enormous crime against Iran.
Russia and China are the only nations with the potential to balance this rogue superpower. Iran’s strategic location and vast resources make it vital to both Moscow and Beijing, which is precisely why it is in the sights of the United States and Israel.
Destroying Iran may be the immediate goal, but Russia and China are the real targets of US imperial ambition. Whether they grasp the scale of the threat is unclear, given their muted response to the assault on Iran so far.
Their failure to veto the “Board of Peace” resolution at the UN Security Council in November – allowing Trump to crown himself a would-be world monarch – is not a promising sign either.
While the United States and Israel are fighting a war of aggression and choice, Iran is in an existential battle for survival.
Iran’s future belongs to Iranians. But if their country is wrecked, or subjected to the tyranny of Washington and Tel Aviv – like so many of its neighbors – that future will be stolen from them for generations.
If this American and Israeli aggression succeeds, no country or people will have sovereignty or any control over their lives.

To all Americans - The Empire that rules you IS the global terrorist of the World.
A global terrorist and bully.
How many other entities go out and kidnap a country's leader, while killing thousands?
How many other entities go out a bomb another country, while killing thousands?
How many other entities go out and kill a country's leader?
How many other entities have over 750 military bases in other countries?
How many other entities' military has a budget that very likely exceed $1 Trillion USD this year alone?
How many other entities have nuclear warships that are in every single ocean?
How many other entities have a military that's the biggest consumer of fossil fuels?
That empire is controlled by an actually small number of people - the rich and powerful probably number somewhere around 3 million (when you consider all the billionaires, wealthy, rich, powerful, military, etc.). That works out to about 1% of the population.
And yet, you have those Americans who STILL think blue no matter who is the binary opposite to maga red, and vice versa.
Meanwhile, the country is slowly collapsing. Inflation is making everything more expensive. Homeless people live under every bridge. The vast majority of Americans cannot afford a $1000 emergency. The biggest cause of bankruptcy is being unable to pay expensive medical bills.
I think all this collapse is by design. I think the rich and powerful that control the US Empire both abroad and here, are slowly trying replace the very system put in place for them - and do so with one that allows them to control the people and resources here the same way they do so everywhere else.
Think that's psychopathic and destructive? It is - I certainly think so. And it's coming sooner than one thinks.
What will happen then?

Propaganda is indeed a very powerful weapon.
And no where is it more prevalent than in the US, and on Americans.
"Behind all the evils of this world stands a single superpower – the United States; everyone knows it, yet no one can restrain it. What follows are merely words of moral condemnation and political support for those subjected to its various methods of killing. This is not surprising; the cult of death in the US has a bizarre imagination. One need only look at crime series such as “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” – in all their versions – to see the countless ways a human being can be killed. But the state (political, military, and corporate power combined) has perfected this imagination on entire nations and states. They fall one after another like dominoes, and no one so much as lifts a finger. We have both classical and non-classical methods of destroying a state. Yet today, the most “modern” are genocide, strangulation, and wars of attrition – all to plunder, eliminate the Indigenous population, and strip it of agency (sovereignty)."
Earth's Great Enemy - the next film I want to see.
Somehow I don't think the US mainstream media will plug this one.
Perhaps because the extension of US Empire (namely it's military) is the villain in this movie.

Never thought I'd see the words 'holiness' and 'Epstein' in the same link.
But there you have it -> https://www.mintpressnews.com/the-dalai-lama-epstein-connection/290674/
I mean if you consider 'holiness' as a CIA operative, and 'Epstein' as a Mossad operative, then it all makes sense.
Incredibly, there are some on the 'left' who still fall for the US Empire's talking points about their latest overthrow attempt of a foreign government
But not at BAR.
https://www.blackagendareport.com/standing-iran ...
Many people who ought to know better have fallen prey to
propaganda, notions of western white supremacy, and beliefs in orientalism.
These otherwise well-informed so-called leftists need little prompting to start
questioning the Iranian government and joining in condemnation of non-existent
oppressions. If they so chose, they could have honest discussions about Iran
and the U.S. and determine which one was most oppressive.
Which country has more people imprisoned than any other?
That would be the United States. Which country is holding immigrant children in
jails across the country? Again, that would be the United States. Which country
is bombing fishermen in the Caribbean to make the case for regime change in
Venezuela? Well, that’s the United States. Which country provides the means to
support Israeli apartheid and genocide. Of course, the United States is the
perpetrator. Where do immigration enforcement agents shoot people to death in
the street? That happens in the U.S.
Which country’s constitution calls for support of all “oppressed people”
and mandates support for Palestine in particular. The answer, of course, is
Iran.
To be blunt, white supremacy infects the West to such a
degree that there are very few people who are able to discern the most basic
facts that might force them to be open-minded about their country and about
others. Even so-called leftists believe that Iranians are backward people who
need to be saved. They give them no credit for being able to practice
self-determination and decide what sort of state they want to live in. They
don’t even care that years of destabilization and war have limited the ability of
Iranians to work for the changes they may want to see realized. In the final
analysis, lazy liberalism and orientalism are as responsible for the crimes
being planned against Iran as much as obedience to zionism and imperialism are.

Fucking Duh. I've been saying ever since it happened that Kurt Cobain didn't kill himself.
Turns out I'm not the only one.
Kurt Cobain died on April 5, 1997 at the age of 27 in his home in Seattle. The cause of death was ruled to be a self-inflicted shotgun wound. Now, almost three decades later, a new report suggests that Cobain was murdered, with the perpetrators forging a suicide note.
"There are things in the autopsy that go, well, wait, this person didn't die very quickly of a gunshot blast," said independent researcher Michelle Wilkins. "The necrosis of the brain and liver happens in an overdose. It doesn't happen in a shotgun death."
Burnett and Wilkins propose that Cobain was drugged against his will, causing a death by heroin overdose. The killers then allegedly shot the rock star and made the scene look like a suicide.

Which genocide of Palestinians is worse?
The dramatic type perpetrated on the part of Palestine that's Gaza, or the more methodical one in the part of the West Bank?
https://mondoweiss.net/2026/02/how-israel-is-eroding-life-for-palestinians-in-the-west-bank/
What is being constructed, then, is not a temporary crisis but a durable condition. The banking blockage in the West Bank is not designed to be resolved, but managed. Settler violence is not an aberration to be corrected, but calibrated. Legal annexation is not a deviation from international norms, but part of it is the new normal.
The question is not whether these processes will intensify—they already are intensifying—but whether those subjected to them will recognize the pattern in time to interrupt it, whether global attention can be sustained in the absence of spectacular violence, whether solidarity can attach itself to the slow grind of compression as fiercely as it once responded to the sudden shock of massacre.

'rules-based world' = Rules for thee, not me.
It's a reminder that the Western/Crapitalist governments are full of shit. They represent the interests of the rich and powerful, and that is all.
https://peoplesdispatch.org/2026/02/08/the-hypocrisy-of-a-rules-based-world/
Recently in Davos, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney did something unusual. He admitted (almost casually) that the so-called rules-based international order has never quite been what it claimed to be. That the rules were unevenly applied. That the strongest routinely exempted themselves. That integration, once sold as mutual benefit, has increasingly become a tool of coercion.
For a brief second, one could almost feel relief. Not because the truth was new – but because it was finally spoken aloud. We have lived under this system for generations. Born into it. Disciplined by it. Told it was neutral, benevolent, inevitable. We were instructed to respect “rules” written elsewhere, interpreted elsewhere, enforced elsewhere – usually against us. The outcome was never order, but obedience; never justice, but management.
And yet, the system endured – not because it was true, but because everyone agreed to behave as if it were. This is the real source of its power.
And also its fatal weakness.

Well I finally started.
Got my musical equipment at last.
It took awhile (and there's still a ton to learn), but I was able to create something fairly fast, and in the way I want to do it.
Obviously it's going to take some time - as well I'll need a new desk.
More to follow on that soon.
When one asks why the US is attacking Venezuela, is it just because of the oil?
I mean, that is a big part of it, but it's much more.
It's because Venezuela represents a true affront to the neo-liberal capitalist system the US has been since Day One.
It's about enabling their people in a way the United States doesn't want to in any with theirs.
The Venezuelan “threat”
When President Hugo Chávez came to power in 1999, a revolutionary process began that would set out to repay the “social debt” owed to the Venezuelan people, beginning by dedicating 75% of national spending to social investment – funds, importantly, generated by the country’s historically predominant oil sector. Through missions that began the year Chávez was elected, the country elevated its population out of poverty and illiteracy, reaching a 100% literacy rate, with more than three million people learning how to read and write (Mission Robinson); training 6,000 professionals in universities and graduating one million high school students (Mission Sucre); granting nearly 5 million homes to families across the country (Mission Vivienda); building health clinics in 320 of Venezuela’s 355 municipalities (Mission Barrio Adentro); and restoring the eyesight of some 300,000 Venezuelans while providing eye surgery to 1 million (Mission Milagro).
President Nicolás Maduro has continued this legacy, despite the duress imposed by the US-led unilateral coercive measures imposed in the years following Chávez’s death, ensuring not only that the country’s resources benefit the well-being of the majority, but also that power is given back to the people through a model of direct democracy. Weeks before he was kidnapped, for instance, Maduro convened the Constitutional Congress of the Working Class, the culmination of 22,110 assemblies in workplaces across the country in which delegates debated and made proposals to the president about the future of the country’s labor sector and productive processes, such as strengthening domestic production of machinery components in order to reduce external technological dependency. Aprobada (“approved”), Maduro told delegate María Alejandra Grimán Rondón as she presented him with the conclusions of the congress in front of a packed auditorium; for another proposal, “the method still needs to be refined”, he replied, outlining next steps for further debate.

What can I say about the Epstein files released that hasn't already been said?
Other than, Israel.
Margaret sums it up best here -> https://www.blackagendareport.com/epstein-files-shows-how-elites-move
Epstein was Jewish, but as documents now tell us, he was also a believer in Jewish supremacy who worked with officials in allegedly democratic nations on behalf of the international ruling class and zionists. Epstein’s ties to Israel are well known to anyone who has been following this story, but his attitudes about people who aren’t Jews, “goyim,” as he often wrote in his emails, is a new revelation. “This is the way the jew make money... and made a fortune in the past ten years, selling short the shipping futures, let the goyim deal in the real world,” is just one of the missives found among Epstein’s emails. When a Hollywood publicist asked if an event would be “100% Jew night,” he replied, “No, goyim in abundance-JPMorgan execs, brilliant WASPs.”
Any discussion of the topic of Jewish financial and political power is usually off limits, a sure means of being labeled anti-semitic. But the damning tranche of files and Epstein’s own words give a space for reporting what is documented.
What has been missing is a deeper dive into the web of relationships with prominent people such as corporate leaders, the Israeli government, and international financiers like Epstein himself. The emphasis on sex trafficking and sexual assaults of minors has quite rightly garnered great attention, but there are many more things we should know about Epstein and what his relationships tell us about how the world actually works.

The ultimate platitude that describes capitalism.
Capitalism is the democracy of delusion for the powerful, and the illusion of democracy for everyone else.
How's that for a platitude?
Had some issues with the blog template.
You may have noticed some black and white backgrounds, along with some black and white texts, all being messed up.
Anyways, I reverted back to an older and simpler format. We'll see if that works.
Can people finally concede that Israel is the ultimate settler/colonial expression of American Exceptionalism?
... the war economy provides growth, foreign currency earnings, and political insulation. This creates a structural incentive for permanent mobilization: war sustains demand, shields the government from accountability, and reinforces a worldview in which force is treated as the primary currency of international relations.
In this configuration, military aggression and territorial expansionism are the mechanisms through which the Israeli economy now seeks to reproduce itself. As a result, Israel’s governing coalition rests on permanent securitization. The war economy has become the organizing principle of political survival and regime insurance.

For most Americans ... their protests of ICE behavior is often obscured by their lack of knowledge of its evolution.
And, history for that matter.
https://www.blackagendareport.com/continuity-social-control-slave-patrols-policing-ice
For the nearly 250 years of legalized chattel slavery in the U.S., slave patrols were the first formalized system of law enforcement in much of the South. Mandated to serve as a mechanism of control of enslaved and free Africans, slave patrols existed to protect the economic system and super profits that slavery produced.
Slave patrols operated in the same void between legality and morality that slavery itself existed in, facilitated by established law while also being deeply immoral and grossly inhumane, they enforced the legal but morally reprehensible statutes that severely limited the autonomy, movement, assembly, and education of enslaved people. And, like today’s anti-immigration offensive, they enforced those morally dubious laws in the most violent and morally repugnant ways possible because the focus was not on upholding the law, but legitimizing the racist social hierarchy.
Slave patrols roamed the Southern roads around plantations and where enslaved and free Africans lived (in some cities, the enslaved in urban areas lived in a separate, segregated area rather than on a land-intensive plantation) all day and at night, looking for Black people to stop and demand papers from. These papers proved the free status or the permission to travel of free and enslaved Africans. They broke into and raided free Africans’ homes, stopped Black people on the street in any context and location, and were legally expected to immediately and violently punish those found without papers. But slave patrollers were also known to reject, steal, or destroy papers that were supposed to keep free people from being re-enslaved, and enslaved people from being accused of escaping and being either sold back into slavery for the profit of the slave catcher, or severely punished as a runaway.
The practice of surveilling, over-policing, randomly stopping, and demanding documentation of Black and Brown people suspected of alleged criminality is not a unique feature of modern policing. These are the tactics established by the slave patrols that shape all aspects of policing today.
Burn baby burn.
I visited Australia many years ago, as a teenager (that's a story for another day).
Granted it was different than I was used to, in that I grew up in a place where all four seasons existed.
That being said, I don't think then, is like today ...
All the 15 Hottest Spots on Earth on Thursday were in Australia; Will it become Uninhabitable?
At times, it can truly feel as though a collapse of sorts is imminent...why?

Just remember this ... when those in media talk about ICE ...
... always remember ... ICE is a 'bipartisan' affair.

Recently, some of my posts have had their background and font color messed with.
Not exactly sure what's going on there - me being paranoid results in a number of theories in my head.
What the US Empire has been doing abroad to other peoples, is finally, clearly, and violently being seen here.
What will the American public do about it?
Killing of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis a day after general strike ignites community outrage
The killing of Alex Pretti came hours after Minnesota’s historic general strike, marking an escalation of violence and repression by federal authorities.
January 25, 2026 by Devin B. Martinez
The killing of Alex Pretti by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on January 24 came less than 24 hours after a historic general strike against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and federal forces in Minnesota. More than 100,000 people marched through the streets of Minneapolis, as thousands of businesses shut down. Such an expression of working-class power has not been seen in the US for over 80 years.

On this of all days, let's remember that this US Empire's greatest threat is a majority that knows the facts and reality.
So in this regard, it's films like this that are dangerous to them.

Surveilled, Slandered, and Targeted: The FBI’s Crusade Against MLK
Posted by Joshua Scheer
Republished From the Archives
Every year on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, official tributes reduce a radical critic of empire, capitalism, and militarism into a safely packaged icon — while quietly ignoring the brutal reality of how the U.S. government treated him in real time. Martin Luther King Jr. was not merely monitored by the FBI; he was hunted, harassed, and psychologically terrorized by a federal agency determined to silence a man whose moral authority threatened entrenched power. In this republished interview, acclaimed filmmaker Sam Pollard exposes the depth of the FBI’s crusade against King — a campaign far darker than most Americans are ever taught. Revisiting this history is not an exercise in nostalgia, but a necessary confrontation with how the state responds when demands for justice move from rhetoric to action.
Highlights of the Interview
1. The FBI’s Campaign to Destroy Martin Luther King Jr.
- Sam Pollard details the FBI’s systematic effort to first discredit King politically, then destroy him personally when the political smear failed.
- J. Edgar Hoover’s obsession with King is framed as an extension of white supremacist ideology embedded in American institutions.
- William Sullivan’s role as Hoover’s enforcer shows how deeply the Bureau committed itself to neutralizing King as a threat.
2. The Cold War as a Weapon Against the Civil Rights Movement
- The FBI used alleged Communist ties — particularly King’s relationship with Stanley Levison — as a pretext for surveillance.
- Robert Scheer challenges the narrative by noting that Communists historically played a positive role in civil rights organizing, making the smear even more cynical.
- Pollard underscores the hypocrisy of a government claiming to defend freedom while targeting its most effective freedom movement.
3. The FBI’s Personal Surveillance and Blackmail Campaign
- The Bureau wiretapped King’s associates and discovered details of his personal life, which they weaponized.
- The infamous suicide‑baiting letter — sent to King along with an audio tape — is discussed as a chilling example of state‑sponsored psychological warfare.
- Pollard emphasizes the media’s restraint at the time, which prevented the FBI’s personal smears from gaining traction.
4. Presidential Complicity: Kennedy, Johnson, and the Machinery of Surveillance
- Scheer highlights the irony that JFK, who had his own well‑documented private life, approved Hoover’s surveillance of King.
- Robert Kennedy’s role as Attorney General is explored — he authorized the wiretaps despite later becoming a critic of such abuses.
- Lyndon Johnson’s break with King after the Vietnam War speech is framed as a turning point that left King exposed.
5. King’s Moral Break with the U.S. Government
- The Riverside Church speech — “My government is the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today” — is presented as King’s most radical and dangerous act.
- Scheer recounts Ramparts’ role in publishing the images of napalmed Vietnamese children that helped push King to speak out.
- Pollard acknowledges King’s isolation after the speech: abandoned by allies, attacked by the press, and targeted by the state.
6. The Unanswered Question: How Was King Assassinated Under 24/7 Surveillance?
- Scheer presses the central mystery: How could the most surveilled man in America be killed without the FBI knowing?
- Pollard admits the official story doesn’t add up and suggests future document releases may reveal more.
- The film raises doubts about the reliability of FBI files, especially handwritten notes alleging misconduct.
7. Infiltration of the Civil Rights Movement
- Pollard confirms that FBI informants were embedded inside King’s inner circle — including one man who sat at a desk next to King and is still alive today.
- Scheer connects this to modern movements, noting that infiltration continues in Black Lives Matter and other activist spaces.
- Pollard frames this as a structural pattern of American policing, not a historical anomaly.
8. The Larger Theme: America’s Enduring Racial Hypocrisy
- Pollard argues Hoover embodied white America — not an aberration but a reflection of national attitudes.
- Scheer situates racism as a 400‑year project used to divide working‑class people and maintain elite power.
- The interview ties past to present, showing how surveillance, repression, and racial control remain central to U.S. governance.
9. The Film’s Achievement
- Pollard’s documentary dismantles the FBI myth by juxtaposing Hollywood’s heroic FBI imagery with the Bureau’s real behavior.
- Scheer praises the film’s courage for refusing to sanitize King or the government — instead presenting a complex, uncomfortable truth.
- The documentary is positioned as essential viewing for understanding both the past and the modern surveillance state.
Well 4 down for the Habs.
12 more to go. But as my brother said, they have taken great strides. Buffalo Sabres up next.
