While this video makes a lot of good points, it neglects something critical.

 

A Canadian (the Toronto Blue Jays of the American League East division) team had won two consecutive championships - 1992 and 1993. And with the Montreal Expos sitting 34 games over .500, they were in very good shape to make an appearance in the World Series; and thus a third consecutive championship won by a non-American.

I think MLB colluded with the union to deliberately create the labor dispute - which served as the catalyst to shut down the 1994 season; and thus prevent another Canadian team from winning.
