Will Progressives and Left-Leaning Canadians learn not to make the same mistakes their American counterparts made in 2008 after Obama won?

That is, will they learn that a step away from a point of no return (i.e. a further trek down the Right) isn't automatically a step to the left; that it's just a first step and only that?

Will they learn that whomever is in power needs to be continually and constantly reminded of what got them there and that to stay in power - any left or progressively-minded leader needs to follow through on their promises? And that such a leader will only do is if they are continually and constantly prodded to do so?
